Why Be Happy?

This is just a quote from one of my favorite series, Doctor Who. It is just beautiful and I wanted to share it with the un-indoctrinated. Let it soak in.

    Why Be Happy?

“Because every time you see them happy, you remember how sad they’re going to be. And it breaks your heart, because, what’s the point in them being happy now, if they’re going to be sad later?

The answer is, of course, because they are going to be sad later.”

Behind the Scenes

As a video editor, I take on whatever projects I can that do not conflict with my day job. A while ago, I was given the opportunity to tell the behind the scenes story of how a United States Postal Service video spot was designed, shot, and produced. Below is that featurette. At the end of the video, you will see the completed spot advertising the USPS. Check it out and please give me any and all commentary on it. Through communication, we make ourselves better. Right?

NYC Etiquette

People unfamiliar with how society in NYC operates believe that there is no etiquette within the city limits. That cannot be further from the truth. There is an unspoken way to properly interact with the cityscape itself and the people that inhabit it. My friend Josh of QuePasaCabarete shared this piece from Nathan Pyle. He has decided to illustrate a lot of these unspoken rules. Nathan also has a book full of these tips and etiquette when in NYC. You really need to check it out and hopefully, you will learn something.

Do You Think Your Job Is Bullcrap?

Every once in a while, you ask yourself the question, maybe even right before reading this, “Is my job really needed? Isn’t this all just a bunch of bullcrap?” I ask myself that question occasionally. Now I am not saying that I have your answer, but an article that was shared with me might get you closer.

Please read “On the Phenomenon of Bullshit Jobs.” It is excellently written and gave me more personal insight into the nature of certain areas of employment. Check it out and let me know if you have your answer!

Mr. Jingles
This is Mr. Jingles. He is the G+ mascot…seriously. Here, he is happy that I viewed all of my notifications and even more happy that today is G+’s 2nd Birthday!

Facebook sucks. Twitter is too restrictive. LinkedIn is a bunch of bovine feces. It would seem that the only reason we use so many social networks is because each of them cannot be all things to all people. That being said, the only network that, for me, has the most going for it is Google+. If you have a Google account (Gmail, Youtube, Drive, etc.) I would suggest that you try it out. The interface is fresh, clean, and novel. Coming from the previously mentioned social sites, you have to take a minute to reorient your brain from a vertical perusing style to a more fluid approach. Also, this interface highlights activity from your actual meatspace friends.

Smartphone Ban

So a federal law is about to go into effect and it has far reaching effects. As a part of the DMCA, it will be illegal to unlock your smartphone without your carrier’s consent. If you do so, you, as a first-time offender, could face a $500,000 fine and/or up to 5 years in jail…for unlocking the smartphone you already own. This is, quite possibly, the stupidest law of which I have heard.

Please sign the White House petition to put a stop to the stupidity and greed of corporate America. I did. My signature number is #36,923. Good luck and thank you!
